Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is the most common psychiatric disorder at school age. Its main characteristics are inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. It has a fundamentally biological origin, associated with genetic and environmental factors that contribute to its onset.
Childhood- or adolescent-onset mood and anxiety disorder
Anxiety and mood disorders are among the most frequent pathologies in childhood and adolescence, presenting a high prevalence rate that limit the personal, family, school and social adaptation of children and have a high predictive value for anxiety disorder and depression in adult life.
Substance abuse disorder in adolescence
Currently a considerable number of young people use recreational drugs, the most commonly consumed substances being alcohol, nicotine and cannabis. In Spain, the onset of alcohol consumption is extremely early and it is not uncommon to find children between 12-13 years old regularly intoxicated.
First psychotic episodes. Schizophrenia in childhood.
The diagnosis of childhood and adolescent-onset psychosis or schizophrenia is very complex due to the predominantly insidious onset. Premorbid behavioural and psychiatric disturbances such as social withdrawal and isolation, conduct problems, poor academic performance and motor speech and language problems are common.
Eating Behaviour Disorders (ED)
They constitute a group of psychiatric disorders whose common denominator is the appearance and development of significant irregularities in food intake, leading to nutritional and metabolic alterations that maintain and/or potentiate the cognitive, emotional and behavioural alterations that gave rise to the clinic.
Autistic Spectrum Disorder
Autistic Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is defined by a set of behaviours such as deficits in the areas of communication and social skills and the presence of restrictive behaviours and repetitive behaviours.
Motor, vocal tics and Tourette's Disorder
A tic is a movement, gesture or vocalisation that occurs suddenly, involuntarily and repeatedly. In order to be diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, a patient must have multiple motor and vocal tics.
Enuresis and Encopresis
They are part of the so-called elimination disorders. They are problems that are very frequently consulted in paediatrics. The development of toilet training in children is a multidimensional process, which includes, among other things, the psychological desire for control and a positive learning experience. A proper medical evaluation is essential as other organic pathologies must be ruled out.
Psychiatric disorders in children with mental retardation or other specific neurodevelopmental pathologies.
Mental retardation is a condition used to define people whose cognitive and adaptive functioning is below a certain threshold. Children with mental retardation are more at risk of developing psychopathological problems.
